History
History of Woollahra
Woollahra, located in Sydney’s Eastern Suburbs, has a rich history dating back to the early 19th century. Originally home to the Gadigal people of the Eora Nation, the area saw European settlement begin in the 1800s, with land grants and estates shaping its early development. The name “Woollahra” is derived from an Aboriginal word meaning “camp” or “meeting ground,” reflecting its deep Indigenous heritage. As the suburb evolved, it became known for its leafy streets, Victorian-era architecture, and a strong commitment to preserving its historic character. Today, Woollahra blends heritage charm with vibrant village life, standing as one of Sydney’s most elegant and historically significant suburbs.
